Podcast Roundup: January 2026
A roundup of podcasts produced by and/or featuring AJ across January 2026...
It's fair to say I release quite a few podcasts every month as I spread myself across a multitude of projects, some as host, others as producer, occasionally popping up as a guest.
In order to give you a clear look each month at what I'm doing in this space, my plan is to 'roundup' all of the podcasts I appear on with a little bit of description for each. Here, then, is my tally for January.
Modern Horror Podcast
A show I co-host with my friend Hugh McStay, this sees us chatting anything horror movie (and TV a bit) since 2010. We kicked 2026 off by ranking all of the films and TV we've covered since September 2024 when we launched, following our 50th episode at the end of 2025. It was quite a list and led to some furious debate. We will revisit and update next year.
Our first main episode saw us joined by horror journalist ubermind Kat Hughes to chat 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We more liked Primate, which we as a three again covered toward the end of Jan, but Kat staged a coup in getting the director of the film on the show, a trick we will repeat with another new film next month.
At the Movies in the 90s
Who doesn't love the 90s? Certainly anyone like me who grew up there retains a real fondness for that decade and cinematically, it's an embarrassment of riches. Alongside my co-host Mark McManus (who grew up a bit earlier), I revisit films from that era of particular interest.
Mark and I tend to split the difference often and come back together at points for episodes, but we started jointly with 1998's Ronin, one of my favourite action films of all time. Later, ace horror podcaster Emma Arneil joined me to chat the delightful 1999 teen Shakespeare adaptation, 10 Things I Hate About You, which gave me all the nostalgic feels and made us sad about where America has now gone.
Last Take
A less prolific show I do with podcaster Sam Stokes is one no less fun and incredibly rewarding. We look at the final movie of a director and use it as a means of discussing their entire career. It takes some research but it's hugely rewarding and means I end up watching films I likely never would have chosen to engage in.
Case in point is our subject for January, Agnes Varda, the French feminist filmmaker. I doubt I would have ever watched a Varda film without Sam encouraging us to look at her work, but I'm all the richer for doing so.
TV's Greatest Seasons
My one guest spot this month is for Baz Greenland's show, which does what it says on the tin. It looks at a great season of television in context of the show itself, and Baz has covered already a huge amount of different series.
I appeared previously to chat the second season of Alias but here, I chose the sixth season of Game of Thrones, which inspired a long-overdue full season rewatch, which was a fantastic experience. This chat, about the show in general, is equally I think a very good one.
